Can this chair be saved?????  Rarely do I find a chair that can’t be helped out and given a new lease on life…

WOW!  Look at it now!  I decided to change the inside back from channels to tufts and the decorative nails to a pretty double welt made from the same linen/cotton fabric.  Since the wood was a little bit worn and dinged-up, I painted it a gray/green with a polyurethane finish.

What do you think?

I’ve often wondered if it is better to find a older well built piece to have redone, or to take a chance on some of the new furniture out there that might not be built quite as well…

How does someone recognize a piece with potential?

      Hi Mike,
Thanks for the question – many factors go into deciding if upholstery is for you. First and foremost – it’s best to have a sturdy piece. Does it wobble? Is any of the wood cracked? That said, repairs may make it a nice candidate.

If the piece is unique or fits perfectly in a spot in your home, it may also be a good candidate. Upholstery is an investment, as it is very labor intensive – but if one plans ahead it’s a great way to recycle/upcycle furniture.

Let me know if you have specific questions about a specific piece and I can help you decide whether it’s worth it or not.
